![]() ![]() Perhaps, a large thumb drive with unencrypted, recent versions of your files would do the trick. In fact, unless I am very mistaken, even having advanced encryption capabilities on personal electronics is a crime in China. OpenVPN is solid, but you will likely still have issues with the Chinese no matter what. I may have to give SoftEther a look, just a cursory glance at their website looks promising. it's one of Asus's higher end consumer grade routers. We do have a router that has built in VPN functionality, but it really does not work too well. Have you checked if you have any current infrastructure hardware that has VPN capability as well? There are some firewalls, routers, etc., that have this functionality built in. Clearly, this isn't optimal, but it is a potential workaround. I have heard of customers RDP into a desktop across Pertino and using a local browser to access their gmail/websites. Today, Pertino only provides a split-tunnel offering where only your network-bound traffic is encrypted and sent across the Pertino tunnel. ![]() Zheins - you are correct in this instance. We have had challenges with the download site being blocked, but that shouldn't be an issue here. We've had customers travel to China without any interruptions to their Pertino service. So far I do like the product, it has a nice feel, and the ease of use is definitely there. who knows might even be able to get away with the limited, 3 device personal plan when the trial runs out, after all it's really mostly for two guys when their abroad. Let's see if anyone from Pertino knows the answer to that one.Įdit: Might add, I did install the trial for Pertino just to give it a whirl. but my question then becomes, is it possible to make internet traffic flow over Pertino? (The bank one of the bosses uses blocks China, so they'd need that.) Looking at it, it's a split tunnel so I feel like it would work for accessing remote file shares. And thanks for the feedback on OpenVPN Gary. Have you checked if you have any current infrastructure hardware that has VPN capability as well? There are some firewalls, routers, etc., that have this functionality built in.įirst of all, thanks for the suggestion Toby. I haven't had a chance to personally test it out yet, but others have also said that SoftEther is a software to try that handles both file access and internet traffic routing. It's licensing is per concurrent connection and is pretty cheap as well. I haven't personally tried it with MAC though. I just setup Access Server which has worked great for Windows, Android and iOS devices. I'm not sure if anything has changed, but at the time several years ago Android didn't support TAP so I would have needed to change configuration or setup another server. I use Community version for PC, but I have it setup with TAP. I have both an OpenVPN Community Free server as well as OpenVPN Access Server (Not Free) for external file access and private browsing. Definitely something they should add as a feature to allow routing internet traffic through a server/computer on your company/remote network. Pertino will do file access, but won't route internet traffic for private browsing. ![]()
